Dronabinol" is not a trade mark but a name given to define natural delta-9-THC extracted directly from the Cannabis Sativa. L. plant.
It can be made through isomerisation or through cyclization from natural CBD or other cannabinoids that have being extracted from Cannabis Sativa L. plants.
"Dronabinol" is not called "natural delta-9-THC" because it may contain traces of other cannabinoids as CBD or CBC, CBN, etc.
It must not be pure delta-9-THC.
To call it "natural-delta-9-THC" it should be only this, 100% pure, and not admitting other stuffs like "dronabinol" does. This was the reason to give to the mix another name than the common one known: natural cis-delta-9-THC
or simply:

As a definition, the content of delta-9-THC in "Dronabinol" must be at least of 95 % where delta-8- THC may not exceed 2 % of the total mass.After this definition, the worldwide through over 300 million people eaten, vaporized or smoked cannabis (hashish, marijuana, etc.) contents indeed "dronabinol" among other things.
"Dronabinol" is a recipe substance in Germany, and in the meantime in other countries, that can be prescribed from any physician with a so called "narcotic-prescription"-bill as opiates, like morphine or codeine are prescribed today, or can be used in research as it is done nowadays in many universities.
"Dronabinol" may not be prescribed in Germany alone but for instance, mixed with sesame oil or delivered together with a device to be inhaled, or whatever other means that makes possible to be applied but not alone as a medicine itself.

The response of opiates ligands that have being found in last research studies in Spain in the brain of laboratory mice, gives the hope that delta-9-THC (or "Dronabinol") can help to ease or finish successful a deprivation of opiates like heroin, morphine, etc.
There is not a well known or proved physical dependence on cannabis out of sleep problems during several days after have stopped a previous daily intake of Dronabinol, cannabis or THC over a longer period of time.
A psychological dependence has being found, similarly to a dependence of TV, games or gambling.
